Byte Construct were engaged by The City of Perth to undertake the redevelopment works to Forrest Place, in the heart of Perth City. Works were split into 4 main stages, the first of which included the demolition and replacement of paving outside the GPO.
Stage 2 involved the demolition and replacement of concrete slabs to the majority of the Murray Street Mall adjacent to Forrest Chase. Stage 3 consisted of major earthworks and landscaping to the area. Precast concrete and timber seating were installed to create a new alfresco and seating area.
The final stage saw the construction of an interactive water sculpture designed by renowned German artist Jeppe Hein. Construction workers flew in from Germany to construct the fountain which is now the main attraction to the City square. Builders works associated with the fountain included the construction of a two storey pump room located in the loading dock directly beneath the square. This included a water tank with a capacity of 73.5 cubic metres and a German designed, supplied and installed water pump system and filtration system.
