Byte Construct were engaged by the State Government of WA to carry out the base building refurbishment, services upgrade and fit-out of Albert Facey House. The scope of works included the complete strip out of eight floors plus the basement, to be replaced with seven floors of Woodhead designed office space, a new ground floor entry lobby, meeting rooms and basement end of trip facilities. Significant services upgrades were also required to bring the building into line with Green Star principles.
Feature elements of the design included excerpts from the writings of iconic West Australian author Albert Facey engraved on the lobby stone wall cladding, references to the life and times of Facey exhibited in graphics to glass partitions and custom designed wallpaper throughout the building.
Staged handover and occupancy added to the complexity of the project and required close liaising and coordination with consulting engineers Wood and Grieve, FESA and the building certifier to ensure that all life protection systems were commissioned by the first handover and maintained throughout the ongoing construction.
